The Selected Professions Fellowships program was created in 1970 to support women in graduate and professional degree programs in fields where female participation traditionally has been low. Minority women (African American, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, Asian American and Pacific Islander) are eligible for additional fellowships within the following selected majors: business administration (2nd year), law (3rd year) and medicine (3rd and 4th year).

AAUW awards Selected Professions Fellowships to women who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States who have achieved high standards of academic excellence and show promise of distinction in their respective fields.
