In a recent essay called Edge People, Judt discusses identity such as national identity and what it will mean for the social and political future of America and European countries. Both of these concerns reemerge as essay subjects in I feel as if Ive been on a death watch for Tony Judt all year. In his January essay, Night, in The New York Review of Books, he discussed his 2008 diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrigs disease.
